-- Iran’s economy expands by 3.3% in nine months
Iran’s economy witnessed a notable expansion of 3.3% in the nine months to December 21, 2022, with the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) reaching over 58,000 trillion rials. The growth, as reported by the Iranian government’s statistics agency on Thursday, was largely driven by the non-oil sectors, which saw an increase of 2.9% year-on-year during the period.
The manufacturing and mining sectors, in particular, showed a robust growth of 5.3% year-on-year in the three quarters to late December, according to the Statistical Center of Iran (SCI).
-- Iran’s tax receipts up 54% in 11 months to late Feb.
Figures by the Iranian National Tax Administration (INTA) show that government’s tax revenues increased by more than a half in the 11 months to February 19.
INTA’s head of planning and statistics Mojtaba Amiri said that Iranian tax receipts had reached more than 4,280 trillion rials ($8.5 billion) between March 2022 and February this year, up 54% from the same previous period.
-- Iran’s cereal output rose 26% y y in 2022: FAO
Latest figures by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations show that cereal production in Iran rose by more than a fourth in 2022. The figures covered in a report by IRNA were taken from the Crop Prospects and Food Situation, a quarterly report by the UN food agency which was released earlier this month.
The figures showed that Iran produced an estimated 20.6 million tons of cereals last year, up 26% from 2021.

Iran’s national deaf wrestling team has succeeded in winning four different medals in the first day of the 2023 Deaf Greco-Roman Wrestling Asia-Pacific Championships.
The Iranian team could grasp two silver and two bronze medals in the first five weight categories in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, during the First Asia-Pacific Greco-Roman and Freestyle Wrestling Championships slated for March 8 to 11, 2023.
-- Iraq to Release $500mn of Iran’s Blocked Assets
The United States has allowed Iraq to release the Iranian blocked assets worth $500 million due to sanctions relief, an Iranian official said. The U.S. has mandated Iraq to release $500 million in Iranian blocked assets, the secretary-general of Iran-Iraq Joint Chamber of Commerce announced on Friday.
Turning to Iran’s blocked assets in neighboring Iraq, Hamid Husseini said the Iraqi officials agreed to deposit Iran’s electricity and gas funds into a banking account belonging to the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) and Iran’s Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution Management Company (known as TAVANIR).
-- 45 NGOs Ask Biden to Clarify Envoy’s Iran Remarks
Forty-five NGOs have urged U.S. President Joe Biden to reject the remarks made by American ambassador to Tel Aviv Tom Nides who had said Washington would back the occupying regime of Israel in “whatever action” they take against Iran.
In a letter, the organizations called on Biden to “clarify that these comments do not reflect U.S. policy towards Iran for the sake of regional stability, future diplomacy, and respect for Congress’ constitutional responsibility for war powers.”

--Iran finalizes deal to buy Russian Su-35 fighter jets
Iran has finalized a deal with Russia to purchase Russian Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets, a Russian state-run news outlet reported. The Russian Sputnik news agency said the information related to the delivery date and the number of the fighters is kept under wraps.
Citing Iran’s mission to the UN in New York, Sputnik said after the end of the Iran-Iraq war in 1988, Iran offered a group of countries its willingness to buy combat aircraft, and Russia said it was ready to sell.
-- “The Stranger” crowned best at resistance filmfest ending aboard warship
“The Stranger”, an Iranian film that portrays the military life of IRGC commander Mohammad Borujerdi, was named best last Wednesday in a different finale to the 17th International Resistance Film Festival aboard the Shahid Abdollah Rudaki warship.
IRGC chief Major General Hossein Salami and Nasser Abu Sharif, a Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement representative, were among the guests attending the closing ceremony held on the warship in the Assaluyeh Port in the Persian Gulf.
