The 2nd UWW ranking wrestling competition in the year 2023, the Egypt Ibrahim Moustafa 2023 Wrestling Tournament began on Thursday at noon time with the first seven weights of the Greco-Roman wrestling in Egypt's Alexandria city, in the first matches two Iranian athletes faced their competitors and beat all to reach the final matches.
At 97kg weight, Mohammad Hadi Saravi gained a rest lot for his first match and beat Georgi Melia from Georgia 2-0 to reach the quarter-final. In that match, too, Saravi beat Tamash Levi from Hungary 5-2 to reach the semifinal. He also won that match 5-2 versus Arthus Omarov from the Czech Republic to face Roberti Kubushvilli from Georgia there.
The world bronze medal winner Kubishvilli (97kg) did not come to the round mattress and thus Saravi won the gold medal without wrestling the final match.
Before Saravi, Iran's other Greco-Roman athlete Meysam Delkhani had won the gold medal in the tournament's 63kg weight.
