China, Iran presidents call for bolstering economic ties: Economic min.

Tehran, IRNA - Ehsan Khandozi, Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance of Iran, has expressed hope that the emphasis of both Chinese and Iranian presidents on expanding economic relations would improve bilateral trade and economic exchanges.

Khandozi, accompanying President Ebrahim Raisi and his economic team on the visit to Beijing, said on Wednesday that the golden convergence between President Raisi and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping would lead to the improvement of mutual trade exchanges as well as tangible economic growth in the Islamic Republic.

According to the economic minister, the Chinese president said in a meeting with his Iranian counterpart and his entourages that Beijing supports Iran’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as the membership of the Islamic Republic in the BRICS, which is an acronym for five leading emerging economies: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, and other regional treaties, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The Chinese president said that Iran and China are victims of international bullying and hegemony, Khandozi added.

President Raisi, for his part, underlined that the relationship between China and Iran is a strategic one, calling for the upgrading of energy, financial, and economic investment relations, the minister said.

Xi supported the implementation of the 25-year Iran-China Strategic Partnership document and called for investment in prioritized projects in Iran as well as the revitalization of energy projects especially renewable energies, and cooperation in transit, cultural exchanges, and agriculture, he added.

The Iranian president leads a high-ranking economic and political delegation on his trip to China. This is the first state visit by a president of the Islamic Republic of Iran to China in 20 years.

On the first day of Raisi’s three-day visit to Beijing, the Iranian and Chinese officials inked 20 documents of cooperation in various fields, including crisis management, tourism, communication and information technology, environment, international trade, intellectual property, agriculture, export, healthcare, media, sports, and cultural heritage.
