‘Warm welcome extended to Raisi sign of China’s strong support for Iran’

Tehran, IRNA – The official invitation and warm welcome extended to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in China shows Beijing’s string commitment to support the Islamic Republic of Iran, a political expert has said.

Li Wang Tse, an analyst with the Intellectual Property Research Institute of the Xiamen University, said in remarks published on Wednesday that Raisi’s visit to China is being held at a critical time when China is facing big international challenges.

Li told the London-based news website Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that China-US tensions on trade, technology and security have increased in recent years while Iran has been faced with American pressures and sanctions.

He said that the invitation extended by the Chinese President Xi Jinping to his Iranian counterpart to visit Beijing is a sign of China’s strong commitment to back Iran’s efforts to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity while seeking to boost bilateral cooperation with allied countries like China.

The analyst insisted that the invitation was made in line with Beijing’s policy of creating a united front against the United States and its policies.

The Iranian president leads a high-ranking economic and political delegation in his trip to China. This is a first state visit by a president of the Islamic Republic of Iran to China in 20 years.

In the first day of Raisi’s three-day visit to Beijing, the Iranian and Chinese officials inked 20 documents of cooperation in various fields, including on crisis management, tourism, communication and information technology, environment, international trade, intellectual property, agriculture, export, healthcare, media, sports, and cultural heritage.
