President says plans to expand Supreme Leader’s pardon to other areas

Tehran, IRNA – Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said on Saturday that his administration has plans to facilitate the pardon of figures and university students who have been involved in illegal acts of recent riots across the country.

Speaking to reporters while participating in the nationwide rallies to commemorate the 44th victory anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Tehran, the president said that in line with the “wise approach” of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei to pardon thousands of citizens arrested in recent protests, the government has been granted permission by the Supreme Leader to expand the pardon to other political and social areas to include university students, cultural, sports, and media figures facing restrictions for their illegal acts in the protests.

President Raisi said that the government also plans to offer unprecedented facilities to Iranian expatriates and lift the restrictions for those who have committed illegal acts under some circumstances.

He said that the new government package, which seeks to forge unity in the society, will be introduced and announced soon.
