Responding to a question by IRNA about a confidential IAEA report on Fordow, which leaked to the media last week, Grossi said on Tuesday that the agency is concerned about the leaks but can do nothing to prevent them.
“You should ask those who leak. The IAEA produces a report and if somebody leaks it what can I do,” said Grossi during an event in Chatham House in London.
“Of course it is a matter of concern. I don’t have a police force or a confidentially commando to make sure that this things … it’s impossible,” he added.
Grossi said we are living at a time where it is rather challenging to control the flow of information
The comments came days after Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Mohammad Eslami criticized Grossi and the IAEA for disclosing confidential and unverified information about nuclear activities in Iran’s Fordow plant.
Eslami said Iran had submitted a letter to the IAEA explaining incorrect issues raised in a recent report by one of the agency’s inspectors during a visit to Ferdow.
The Iranian official said, however, that Grossi had decided to disclose the wrong claims raised in the report in a confidential letters sent to the media on February 1.
“This behavior is unprofessional and is unacceptable and we hope that agency’s director general stops such practices because this … is not acceptable for his and the Agency’s credibility” he said in an interview with Iranian state TV on February 3.
