Abbas Arbab Khales, Iran’s Ambassador to Turkmenistan, told IRNA on Tuesday that the MoU was signed in a border and consular commission meeting between the two countries in the capital city of Ashgabat on Monday.
The meeting was held between Consular Deputy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Parliament and Iranians Affairs Ali-Reza Bigdeli and his Turkmen counterpart at Turkmenistan’s Foreign Ministry in Ashgabat, Arbab Khales noted.
The two sides raised issues such as the development of customs, transport, road, railway, and maritime cooperation as well as providing drivers with more facilities and facilitating the issuance of visas, and improving border circumstances, he added.
The ambassador also pointed to the meeting between Iran’s deputy foreign minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Raşit Meredow.
According to the envoy, the Turkmen FM felicitated the victory anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, wished for increasing success of the Iranian people and government, called for expansion of bilateral ties in diplomacy, tourism, economy, and Persian Language cooperation, and underlined the need for the exchange of diplomatic delegations between the two sides.
Arbab Khales, for his part, said that the Iranian diplomatic delegation held talks with the road transportation union of Turkmenistan and they reached a good consensus.
Turkmenistan with around seven million population has joint borderlines with Iran, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and Kyrgyzstan.
Iran’s Razavi Khorasan Province possesses 531 kilometers of borderlines with Turkmenistan. The Iranian province conducts diplomatic and trade exchanges via three border crossings of Sarakhs, Lotfabad, and Bajgiran.
