--Iran delivers 10,000 affordable houses to owners

The Iranian government delivered 10,000 homes to owners under its massive affordable housing project as President Ebrahim Raeisi vows to accelerate the completion of unfinished projects to provide more housing to low income-earners in the country.

Raeisi handed over house keys and deeds to four owners in the city of Parand, in southwest Tehran, where 29 projects consisting of nearly 7,000 homes were inaugurated, according to Press TV. More than 3,000 housing units in rural areas across Iran were also delivered to their owners on Saturday.

-- Iran FM: U.S. policy of sanctions, bullying doomed to fail

Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian rapped the U.S. policy of imposing sanctions against other countries, including the Islamic Republic and several South American countries, saying such a policy is doomed to fail.

“The United States’ policy of [imposing] unilateral sanctions [on other countries] and bullying is doomed to fail,” Iran’s top diplomat made the remark in an early Sunday meeting with his Cuban counterpart, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, in Havana.

-- Iran mining product exports hit $10b

Iran’s exports of mining and mineral industries products exceeded $9.96 billion during March 21, 2022-January 20, 2023. The export volume consists of 39.15 million tons of different products of mining industries, indicating a three percent growth year-on-year.

The exported items comprised of steel and its related products amounted to 8.69 million tons worth $4.64 billion, constituting 46.6 percent of total exports of the country.

--Dutch Iranologist Passes Away at 91

Prominent Dutch Iranologist Hans de Bruijn who held the chair of New Persian ‎Language and Culture at Leiden University has died at the age of ‎‎91.‎
In a press release, Tehran’s Book City institute announced the news and expressed condolences over the demise.
The scholar studied Semitic, Persian and Turkish languages at Leiden University in the 1950s. Among his teachers was Karl Jahn (1906-1985), a specialist in the history of Central Asia, Persian historiography and Turcology.

-- Italian Artist Finds Her Passion in Islamic Calligraphy, Rumi

Italian artist Antonella Leoni speaks with great passion as she describes her works on papyrus hanging on the walls of her Cairo apartment.
She points to one of her favorites: the Buraq, a heavenly creature in Islamic tradition that transported Prophet Muhammed (Peace upon Him) during his Al Isra Wa Al Miraj journey from Makkah to Al-Quds.
The Qur’anic verse referring to the event is inscribed on seven lines, concluding with: “He alone is all-hearing, all-seeing”.

-- World Bank: Iran’s Economy Grew 2.9% in 2022

Iran’s economic growth saw a 2.9 percent surge in 2022, World Bank has reported. According to the World Bank, Iranian economic growth reached 2.9 percent in 2022, equal to world economic growth, and exceeds the 1.9 percent growth of the American economy.
As estimated by the international body, U.S. economic growth in 2022 accounted for 1.9 percent, which is lower than Iran’s economic growth this year.

--Director says “General Sorayya” warns audiences not to fall for MKO charm offensive

Iranian director Leili Aaj has said that her debut film “General Sorayya” warns Iranians not to believe Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) propaganda. Speaking at a press conference held after a screening of her film at the 41st Fajr International Film Festival last Thursday, she referred to MKO’s recent attempts to portray a more favorable image of itself, and said, “Don’t believe the MKO; they are trying to sanitize their dark past.”  

“The group is attempting to bolster its image; they assume that we have forgotten their history over the past 40 years, but we shall never forget,” she noted.

-- Iranian firms sign $900m deal to develop offshore gas field

Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Company (IOEC) and Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC) signed a deal worth $900 million on Saturday to cooperate in developing the country’s Kish gas field, Shana reported. Held on the occasion of the 44th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, the signing ceremony was attended by senior officials including Oil Minister Javad Oji, Head of National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) Mohsen Khojasteh-Mehr as well as the heads of the signatory firms.

Kish gas field is one of Iran’s largest gas fields whose in-place reserves are estimated at 56 trillion cubic feet; when fully developed, the field will have the capacity to produce 120 million cubic meters of gas per day.

-- Forgotten in modern Isfahan: Darb-e Kushk

At the intersection of Tayeb and Mir-Damad streets, is located the remnants of Darb-e Kushk, which was once an ancient neighborhood of Isfahan, prosperous in the Aq-Qoyunlu epoch (1378–1503). A Sar-dar (vaulted portal), mosque, and madrasa are monuments that still stand today to preserve the memory of those times.

An ancient inscription suggests the portal (also known as Sar-dar-e Zaviyeh Bab al-Qasr) dates to the reign of Aq-Qoyunlu, ruler Abol-Mozafar Rostam Bahador khan. Six-pointed star panels and vegetal patterns are used to decorate it.
