Iran, Zimbabwe to expand economic cooperation

Tehran, IRNA – Minister of labor and social welfare said here on Sunday that Iran is fully ready for expansion of economic and trade cooperation with Zimbabwe.

Solat Mortazavi who was speaking at the 9th Joint Ministerial Meeting of Iran and Zimbabwe Commission added that this shared stance at the international societies is the main factor for expansion of comprehensive bilateral ties.

He emphasized that the Iranian trade and economic companies and the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare will participate actively in Zimbabwe Economic Cooperation Exhibition.

The Iranian labor minister reiterated that during the Supreme Leader's visit of Zimbabwe when he was the president of the Islamic Republic of Iran the foundation stone for these ties was set and our bilateral historical relations are of paramount importance.

Mortazavi said that also the first lady of Zimbabwe attended the 2022 Tehran Influential Women Conference and that the visit was a prelude to the broadening of Iran-Zimbabwe cooperation for self-sufficiency for women in both countries.

The minister of foreign affairs and international trade of Zimbabwe, too, said at the commission that the business and economic delegations' visits are the keys for further strengthening of bilateral relations, adding that also the parliament members and governors of the central banks of the two countries have visited each other's countries during the recent years.

Fredric Shawa also appreciated Iran's full support for Zimbabwe during the period that that nation was fighting for independence, adding, "After the Islamic Revolution of the year 1978 Iran-Zimbabwe relations increased in energy, agricultural and health fields, and they can still further expand in many other fields."

Shawa said that one of the major challenges faced by the Zimbabwe economy is the lack of presence of foreign investors, adding, "Zimbabwe Sustainable Economy Program was launched in the year 2020, whose most important chapter is expansion of trade and economic cooperation with the friendly country of Iran."

He said that the Iranian commercial and economic companies have the opportunity of benefitting from Zimbabwe investment opportunities, adding, "The Joint Iran-Zimbabwe Commission is the most important framework for mutual cooperation between the two countries.
