Venezuela’s Maduro hails ‘honest, brotherly’ relations with Iran

Caracas, IRNA – Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has hailed his country’s “honest and brotherly" relations with Iran as he insists that an ongoing visit by Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian to the south American country is a good opportunity to further boost bilateral relations.

Maduro made the comments early on Saturday in a meeting with Amirabdollahian in Venezuela’s capital Caracas in which the two senior officials discussed various issued in bilateral and international relations.

The Venezuelan President stressed during the meeting with Amirabdollahian that Iran and Venezuela should accelerate efforts to implement bilateral cooperation programs in 2023.

In the meeting, Amirabdollahian conveyed the warm greetings of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to Maduro and said that a visit to Iran last year by the Venezuelan president was a milestone in bilateral relations between the two countries.

Amirabdollahian also met and held talks with Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez early on Saturday.

Leading a high-ranking Iranian delegation, Amirabdollahian arrived in Caracas late on Thursday. He held talks with other senior government officials of Venezuela on Friday, including with the country’s ministers of foreign affairs and petroleum.
