FM spox rejects alleged weapons shipment from Iran to Yemen

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani on Thursday rejected alleged shipment of weapons from Iran to Yemen, saying that the allegations have been levelled based on political motives and aim to mislead the world public opinion.

American media on Wednesday cited officials as saying that French naval forces in January had seized weapons coming from Iran heading to Yemen.

The Iranian foreign ministry spokesman said the countries, which are openly involved in selling weapons and intelligence assistance to the “aggressors” through military deals and are directly involved in a humanitarian blockade against the Yemeni people, are in no place to level accusations against other nations.

These countries are better to immediately abandon their “opportunistic” approach on “this cruel war”, instead of misleading the world public opinion and shrinking their responsibilities “in the imposed war against the defenseless people of Yemen”, Kanaani added.

Yemen has been devastated by war launched by a coalition of countries led by Saudi Arabia in March 2015.

The Saudi-led coalition also imposed an all-out blockade on Yemen, which has remained in place to date and taken a heavy toll on the civilian population in Yemen.
