Official: Iran can increase oil production from 3.8 to 6 million bpd

Tehran, IRNA – Managing director of Persia Oil and Gas Development Company referring to activities of 19 explorer companies, said that by applying three methods, Iran can increase its oil production from current 3.8 up to 6 million barrels per day within the next 5 years.

Jaafar Hejazi in an interview with IRNA referred to the producers and industrialists' meeting with the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, saying, "After the coronavirus pandemic, the Supreme Leader has been holding these meetings, and this was the second session we had with him.

The knowledge-based company's managing director said that he presented a report on behalf of 19 exploration and production (E&P) companies in the meeting with the leader, proposing three strategies to boost the country's production capacity from the current 3.8 to some 6 million bpd within five years' time, which is almost 1.5 times greater.

He said that using the advanced pumps, which Iran is currently importing, side by side with the pumps manufactured at Martyr Chamran University of Ahvaz will increase the country's production by 780,000 barrels per day.

The managing director of Persia Oil and Gas Development Company emphasized that most of Iran's oil rigs are on oil fields which are in their second half of life, adding, "Therefore, we need to use such new methods as hydro-cracking in addition to the artificial excavation pumps."

He said that in this method the alterations occur in deep wells and we have had limited experience in this field in the country. Now too, we are after cooperation with international companies to make aboriginal this technique in Iran and for the first time increase production using the hydro-crack method.

Engineer Hejazi said that using this method will help us increase production by 850,000 barrels per day.

He said that the 3rd method for increasing production another 2 million barrels is expansion of the new oil fields, for which IPC contracts will be signed.

The managing director of Persia Oil and Gas Development Company said that his company signed a contract for expansion of Yaran-e Shomal Oilfield in the year 2012, adding, "That oilfield is along Iran's borders with Iraq, and its development plan which started in the year 2012 ended in 2017.
