--Constitutional Council approves bill on Iran’s SCO membership

The Iranian Constitutional Council approved the bill on Iran’s membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), said the council’s spokesman. Making the remark in a televised interview on Saturday, Hadi Tahan Nazif added that the Constitutional Council reviewed the bill and did not find it in contradiction with the country’s religious regulations and the Constitution, according to the Iranian Judiciary’s Mizan news agency.

He stressed that, previously, the bill had been handed over to the council after approval by Parliament, but was not passed due to a number of problems as well as ambiguities.

-- MP: Iran Parliament drafts plan to retaliate Europe’s ‘meddlesome’ behavior 

Iranian lawmakers are strongly after retaliating Europe’s interventionist behaviors harshly and to this end, have prepared a double-urgency plan, an MP said on Saturday.

Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Vahid Jalalzadeh made the remarks in an interview with IRNA, noting that the bill aims to impose sanctions on the armies of the European Union member states as a reprisal for their “meddlesome” behaviors, by which he was referring to the European Parliament’s resolution to blacklist the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) a “terror organization” and a potential decision by the EU to follow the EP’s suit.

--Iranian Naval Flotilla Sailing in Latin America

 Second-in-command of the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy, Rear Admiral Hamzeh Ali Kaviani, says the country’s 86th flotilla of warships is now sailing along the western shores of Latin America, and is going to berth at Brazil’s southeastern port city of Rio de Janeiro within the next few days.
Addressing a ceremony in the northern Iranian city of Chalous on Saturday, Kaviani stressed that Iran’s military might is increasing day by day despite all the pressures that have been applied against the Islamic Republic over the past 43 years.

-- Franklin Institute Awards Iranian Scientist Nader Engheta

 Iranian scientist Nader Engheta has been awarded the 2023 Benjamin Franklin Medal for his achievements in electronic engineering.
Engheta received the medal in electronic engineering for his work in engineering novel materials that interact with electromagnetic waves in unprecedented ways, with broad applications in ultrafast computing and communication technologies, according to The Franklin Institute’s announcement.

-- Official: Iran to Rank 14th in Auto Manufacturing by Spring

Director general of Iran’s Industry, Mining and Trade Ministry’s Automotive Industry Abdollah Tavakoli Lahijani has said that the country ranked 19th in terms of car production in the world last year, which due to production growth could be promoted to 14th by the end of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023).
Automobile manufacturing in Iran reached 1,050,000 in the first 10 months of the current Iranian calendar year (ending on March 21), Tavakoli Lahijani, said.

-- Moscow Museum of Oriental Art to showcase works by Hassan Ruholamin 

 The Museum of Oriental Art in Moscow plans to hang paintings by Iranian artist Hassan Ruholamin in an exhibition opening on February 4. Fourteen works produced over the past three years will be showcased at the exhibit entitled “Painting of the Heart”.

Among the works selected for the exhibition, there are not only compositions imbued with subtle lyricism, with their detail and color dating back to the aesthetics of traditional Iranian miniatures and the classics of Iranian art of the 20th century, but also large battle scenes, exhibition curator Ilya Zaitsev said in a statement published by the Russian museum.

-- Iran’s nominal power generation capacity exceeds 90,000 MW

With the inauguration of a new thermal power plant in southwestern Iran, the nominal capacity of the country’s power plants has exceeded 90,000 megawatts (MW), an official with the country’s Thermal Power Plants Holding Company (TPPH) announced.

According to Mohammad Ramezani, the deputy head of the company’s projects development department, the mentioned power plant which has been constructed with €250 million of investment in Khuzestan Province, is comprised of a 307-MW gas unit and a 144-MW steam unit, IRNA reported.''

-- Sassanid petroglyph on marriage found in Marvdasht

 Archaeologists have recently found a Sassanid-era (224–651) rock drawing in Marvdasht, southern Fars province, ILNA reported on Saturday. The petroglyph is written on the subject of wishing for a holy marriage for an Iranian lady, said Iranian archaeologist Abolhassan Atabaki.

It is one of the most beautiful Sassanid inscriptions discovered over the past century in Marvdasht, as it bears a wish for a holy marriage for an Iranian lady, he added.
