Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has visited the world’s oldest Quran in Ensemble Hazrat Imam in Uzbek city of Tashkent.
Amirabdollahian is in in Tashkent to attend the 26th ministerial meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).
The meeting started on Tuesday with an Iranian delegation led by Amirabdollahian in attendance.
The Samarkand Kufic Quran, also known as the Uthman Quran, Samarkand codex, Samarkand manuscript and Tashkent Quran, is a manuscript Quran written in the Kufic script in 8th or 9th century in the territory that is today called Iraq.
The manuscript is kept in the Hast Imam library, in Ensemble Hazrat Imam which is popularly known as Hast-Imam and is located in Sibzar, an old residential district of Tashkent.
The Ensemble is a complex of historical and architectural monuments formed around the tomb of Kaffallya ash-Shashi, the first Imam and preacher of Islam in Tashkent and also a famous theologian and linguist after whom the complex is named.
