Mohseni-Eje'i made an announcement on the pardons and reduced sentences as he was attending a commemoration service for General Soleimani in the martyred general’s hometown of Kerman in southeast Iran on Monday, according to Iranian judiciary’s Mizan News.
Mohseni-Eje'i said the 3,000 inmates will be released within the next few days and concurrent with ceremonies held across Iran to mark three years since General Soleimani’s was martyred in US attack on January 3, 2020.
He said the decision was adopted to reflect General Soleimani’s efforts during his life to help the needy in the country, adding that pardons and reduced sentences would cover individuals who have been behind bars due to unintentional crimes or because of debt.
