Ali-Reza Enayati, and aide to the Iranian foreign minister who also serves as the head of the Persian Gulf Department of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told Aljazeera TV network late on Sunday that the country is ready to respond to any potential aggression by the Zionists.
Enayati said Iran is not disturbed by threats leveled against the country by the Zionists.
As to the issue of Baghdad Conference that was held last month in Jordan, Enayati said that Tehran welcomes initiatives that support Iraq and promote the mood for cooperation in the region.
Enayati also described a meeting between foreign ministers of Iran and Saudi Arabia on the sidelines of the conference in Amman as friendly, adding that doors are open for reviving the mutual ties between the two countries.
Iran seeks good relations with its neighbors, he said, adding that Tehran has signed security deals with certain neighboring countries, including with Saudi Arabia.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Enayati referred to efforts by some of Iran’s neighboring states to help revive the 2015 nuclear deal between the country and world powers, which is known as the JCPOA, noting that the Tehran welcomes such initiatives.
He further stated that Jordanian King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein and Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian had discussed the road ahead of the two countries for expanding bilateral ties.
The second edition of the Baghdad Conference was held in the presence of 12 high-ranking officials mostly from regional countries in Amman on December 20, 2022. The participants issued a final statement, underlining the need for doubling efforts to fight regional challenges.
The conference, which was held at the invitation of the Jordanian king and in coordination with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani, was attended by heads of states and other officials from Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Turkey as well as the secretary general of the (Persian) Gulf Cooperation Council, representatives from the Arab League, the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the European Union and French President Emanuel Macron.
The gathering was organized in a bid to support sovereignty, security and stability in Iraq as well as to develop cooperation mechanisms to enhance peace and stability in the region.
