Iran says EU hostile measures overshadow chances to pursue mutual interests

Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Thursday which said that continuation of Iranophobia by the European Union would overshadow chances for pursuing mutual interests.

The statement came in reaction to recent anti-Iran stances by the European Council on Foreign Relations and those of certain European countries.

It said that Iran condemns in the strongest form the misuse of international mechanisms.

The Islamic Republic of Iran rejects any instrumental and selective use of human rights, the statement said, reminding the shameful double standards of the United States and some European countries towards the strongest violations of human rights taking place in the occupied Palestinian lands.

Iran, as a responsible member of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), has always been cooperating with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and is resolved to continue with the cooperation, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in the statement.

It advised the Western countries to refrain from political approaches to Iran nuclear program so as not to damage the course of technical cooperation between Iran and IAEA.

The statement said that Iran has always been backing Ukraine territorial integrity and has been seeking a diplomatic settlement to the crisis.

It echoed remarks by different Iranian officials that Iran has supplied none of the warring sides in Ukraine with drones, noting that all defensive and military cooperation between Iran and other countries is in line with the country’s international rights and obligations.

The statement also referred to the binding obligations of the United States, Britain and France under the Arms Trade Treaty, and said that the three mentioned countries have "knowingly" provided deadly weapons to the Saudi-led coalition for use in the Yemen war and have therefore been involved in probable war crimes.
