Senior Pakistani official dismisses West pressure over Iran ties

Tehran, IRNA – The top lawmaker of Pakistan’s Balochistan Province on Wednesday said that his country rejects any attempts by the West and extra regional powers to interfere in its relations with Iran.

Jan Mohammad Jamali, Speaker of the Provincial Assembly of Balochistan, located in the city of Quetta, made the comment as he hosted an Iranian political and economic delegation headed by the country’s ambassador to Pakistan, Mohammad Ali Hosseini.

The Pakistani official said that his country is determined to expand relations with Iran, despite all the problems exist including sanctions.

Balochistan, as the Pakistani province which is near to Iran, plays a key role to help achieve that goal, he added.

Jan Mohammad Jamali also referred to Tehran-Islamabad cooperation on regional peace and stability, stressing that ties between the two sides should not be affected by the West pressure as well as meddling by extra regional powers.

He said that a parliamentary delegation from Balochistan will visit Iran in the coming months to follow up the agreements aimed at boosting mutual cooperation.

The Iranian ambassador welcomed the trip by the Balochistani delegation and thanked Jan Mohammad Jamali for his efforts to boost cooperation between the two countries.
