Head of the Syrian Arab Republic delegation, Assistant Foreign and Expatriates Minister Ayman Sousan held a session of talks with the Iranian delegation, headed by Senior Assistant to Iranian Foreign Minister for Special Political Affairs Ali Asghar Khaji in the framework of activities of the 19th international meeting on Syria in Astana format at the Kazakh Capital on Wednesday, The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported.
Talks during the meeting touched upon the current developments in Syria and the region, in addition to issues on the agenda of the international meeting.
Stressing Iran’s support for Syria’s territorial integrity and unity, Khaji expressed Iran's categorical rejection of any work that poses threat to the unity, as it could only lead to escalating the situation in the region.
Sousan, for his part, reiterated Syria’s stand by Iran in facing the campaign targeting it, asserting full confidence in Iran’s ability to tackle the current situation and foiling the hostile scheme.
The two sides agreed on continuing consultations and coordination towards the current challenges.
The four countries involved in the 19th international meeting on Syria in the Astana Format, which was held in Kazakhstan’s capital, issued a statement condemning constant aggression by the Zionist regime against the Arab country, underlining the necessity for full implementation of all existing accords on northern regions of Syria, reviewing the situation of a de-escalation zone in Idlib, and agreeing upon making more efforts to normalize the stable condition in the country.
In the final statement, which has been issued after two days of negotiations, the countries guaranteeing the Astana Format reiterated their firm adherence to preserving the national sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Syria.
