Proposing anti-Irani resolution to IAEA BoG aims to exert pressure on Tehran: Spox

Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said on Thursday that a proposal to the IAEA Board of Governors by the United States and three European states to issue an anti-Iranian resolution is aimed at putting Tehran under political pressure.

The Iranian spokesman condemned the move by the US, Britain, France and Germany as unacceptable and rejected.

Kanaani said that the measure by the four mentioned countries is taking place while a delegation from the Iranian nuclear agency has been negotiating with the International Atomic Energy Agency over the past recent weeks to find practical solutions to complicated and technical safeguards issues.

He said that these four countries, as the main sponsors of this anti-Iran resolution, have been seeking to take advantage of the recent situations and exert more pressure on Iran.

The foreign ministry spokesman noted that such measures would negatively impact the process of solving technical issues by the UN nuclear agency.

Kanaani called on independent and non-aligned movement (NAM) members of the IAEA Board of Governors not to vote for the resolution and openly express their stance.

He, however, noted that Iran is committed to a comprehensive safeguards agreement and continuation of cooperation with the IAEA under this agreement.

He added that in case of approving this resolution in the IAEA Board of Governors, Iran’s response would be firm.
