At the Wednesday meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency Board of Governors, Permanent/Resident Representative of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Office of the United Nations and to other International Organizations in Vienna Goetz Schmidt-Bremme read the statement of Britain, France and Germany, claiming that Iran’s ultra-JCPOA demands got in the way of achieving a consensus in September negotiations.
The statement did not point out to the real violator of the JCPOA, alleging that the European troika along with their partners have done their best to pave the way for returning to the nuclear agreement, and that the European coordinator of the talks in Vienna, Austria, proposed drafts in March and August, but Iran rejected the packages and offered its demands.
Earlier, Representative of the United States of America to the International Atomic Energy Agency Laura S. H. Holgate claimed that Iran destroyed collective hope for imminent return to the JCPOA, when Tehran proposed impossible requests.
The Islamic Republic emphasized that a new consensus should effectively lift anti-Iran sanctions and the Iranian people should witness economic benefits of the agreement.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian ruled out the United States’ hypocritic claims, arguing that the Americans are constantly sending messages, saying that they are in a hurry to reach consensus in terms of the JCPOA, but they allege in interviews that negotiations for the revival of the deal are not among their priorities.
The E3’s statement also claimed that the situation regarding Iran’s commitments under the JCPOA would worsen; so, they will continue consultations with their international partners to adopt the best way to stand against, what they claimed, a nuclear Iran.
Iran tried to abide by its commitments under the nuclear deal even one year after the United States’ withdrawal from the agreement in May 2018, but the European signatories to the accord did not comply with their commitments and refused to show any tangible effort to save the international contract.
