VP: Iran, Russia should expand using nat'l currencies in trade

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s First Vice-President Mohammad Mokhber on Wednesday announced his country’s readiness to expand trade ties with Russia, saying that the two sides should speed up efforts to increase the use of their national currencies in trade exchanges.

Mokhber was speaking at a meeting in Tehran with Russian Presidential Advisor Igor Levitin.

The Iranian official said that Tehran-Moscow trade cooperation, in addition to serving the interests of both sides, would be beneficial for the whole region as well.

The Russian official, on his part, said that his country is ready to boost cooperation with Iran in different areas, especially in the transit sector where Moscow is ready to make joint ventures.

Iran and Russia, coupled with a number of other countries hit by Western sanctions, have in recent years worked on plans to shift from the US dollar in their transactions.

All of the targeted nations believe that the West, especially the US, are using the sanctions as a weapon against independent states.
