Director of Al Mayadeen TV Ghassan bin Jiddo issued a statement in which he called on global solidarity with Iranian media.
Canada imposed sanctions on six Iranian individuals and four legal entities of the country on Wednesday under human rights accusations.
Fars News Agency along with the Expediency Council, Guardian Council and Experts Assembly were the four legal entities sanctioned by Canada on Wednesday.
A few days earlier, Ottawa also imposed sanctions on Tasnim News Agency, Kayhan daily newspaper and its managing director Hossein Shariatmadari, as well as Nour News, and an IRIB reporter Ali Rezvani and the IRIB chief Peyman Jebeli.
Bin Jiddo said that Al Mayadeen TV sees any decision by Canadian officials to sanction Iranian media and reports under trumped-up pretexts as surprising and questionable.
Al Mayadeen TV fundamentally rejects sanction of any kind and regards it as a defeated useless option, the statement said, adding that revenging through sanctions is indicative of weakness not power.
The statement also said that what they did with Russian media, including removal and withdrawal, is an emphasis on the failure of this path, which is in contradiction with the most basic professional rules of the media and respect for the freedom of the press.
It added that the current sanctions against Iranian media will undoubtedly fail too.
