The Foreign Ministry has decided to utilize the sanction mechanism in line with legal regulations and resolutions approved by Iranian authorities and entities in a bid to impose bans on natural and legal British persons, including those who have been playing a role in riots, violence and terrorist acts against the Iranian nation.
The Islamic Republic of Iran reminds Britain to abide by its international commitments concerning the fight against terrorism and prevention of spreading hatred. Therefore, the British government’s refusal to stop backing these actions amounts to violation of international law.
The sanctioned entities include Britain’s National Cyber Security Centre, Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ), Volant Media UK Ltd, Global Media Group, DMA Media, BBC Persian and Iran International TV networks.
The individuals, subject to Iran’s sanctions, are Minister of State for Security of the United Kingdom Tom Tugendhat, Royal Navy Commodore Don Mackinnon, Parliamentary Chair of Labour Friends of Israel Steve McCabe, Member of Parliament Stephen Crabb, Member of the House of Lords Stuart Polak, Lawmakers Bob Blackman and Theresa Cilliers, politician Anthea McIntyre, and General Mark Carleton-Smith who served as the Chief of the General Staff when top Iranian General Qassem Soleimani was assassinated by the US in Iraq in January 2020.
Under the sanctions, the targeted British individuals will be denied a visa to enter Iran. Their assets will also be confiscated in the Islamic Republic.
It is clear that the sanctions will not prevent the Islamic Republic from prosecuting the targeted persons over their participation in criminal acts.
The Islamic Republic holds the British government accountable for supporting terrorists and violators of human rights who organize riots and terrorist acts in Iran from inside the UK.
