Russia’s 3rd consignment to India reaches southern Iranian port

Bandar Abbas, IRNA – Russia’s third transit train destined for India arrived here in this southern Iranian port, a provincial official announced on Wednesday.

Two more transit trains containing 37 and 39 wagons of potash fertilizer had reached Bandar Abbas in the past two days, head of the Hormuzgan railway company Hamid Gogochani told IRNA.

The trains start journey from Russia, pass Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan and arrive in Sarakhs border in northeastern Iranian province of Razavi Khorasan; then they move to Bandar Abbas after travelling about 1,600 kilometers, the official said.

Totally, one million tons of potash fertilizer have been loaded up from Russia and are en route to Iran for reaching India.

The consignments will leave Bandar Abbas for India by ships, he added.

As the official underlined, such a transit proves Iran’s strategic position; its foothold in the North-South Transport Corridor in particular.

North–South Transport Corridor is a sea, rail, and road route expected to facilitate and boost exchange of goods between Iran, India, Russia, Europe, and the Central Asian states.
