I am delighted that the Tour of Iran (Azerbaijan) is back for its 35th edition after a three-year hiatus. This prestigious event will showcase the impressive Azerbaijan region of north-western Iran over five days from 29 September to 3 October.
The growing prestige of the Tour of Iran (Azerbaijan) has attracted increasing numbers of talented foreign athletes over recent years but local riders will be doing their utmost to return to the podium in what will be a special, celebratory edition of the event as the world returns to normality after the pandemic. Everything is in place for a real festival of cycling.
Events of this high calibre involve a great deal of organisation and hard work behind the scenes in the months leading up to the race days. I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Cycling Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran and all the sponsors and partners who have been indispensable in bringing the Tour of Iran (Azerbaijan) back to Iranian roads. I must also thank all the officials and volunteers without whom this event would simply not be possible.
It only remains for me to wish the riders the very best of luck for what promises to be a hugely exciting race!
