The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 22nd Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
During the meeting, Raisi said that boosting ties with India was among Iran’s foreign policy priorities, describing the current relationship between the two nations as friendly.
The Iranian President said that Tehran and New Delhi could elevate their relations and expand collaborations by leveraging the existing capabilities in oil, gas, and transportation, especially Chabahar-Central Asia route which connects the Indian Ocean to Central Asia, as well as cooperation in regional and international issues where they share common views.
India’s Prime Minister Modi, for his part, expressed New Delhi’s disagreement with unilateral sanctions against countries.
He underscored the significance of Chabahar Port in southern Iran in freight transportation and said that development of the port could contribute to development of the countries in the region.
Modi highlighted the common stances of Iran and India on the development in Afghanistan and called for continuation of regional and international collaborations with Iran on the issue.
The two leaders exchanged invitations to pay a visit to each other’s countries.
