Indian PM: Talks with Iran president on broadening of ties

Tehran, IRNA – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote in a tweet that in a meeting with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi the talks were on expanding bilateral friendship.

On the sidelines of the Samarkand Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) India Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a meeting with President Raisi.

In his Farsi language tweet, the Indian prime minister wrote that his talks with President Raisi were on a broad spectrum of various issues, which were all related to the expanding friendship with Iran. He wrote that the talks were in such fields as energy, trade and connection paths.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit was held on September 15-16. This year the SCO summit is held in Uzbekistan's Samarkand city. It is the first in-person summit after the 2019 Bishkek summit in Kyrgyzstan.

The summit is held with the participation of the heads of states of the SCO members — India, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Notably, this year Iran will be joining the SCO as its ninth member.
