AEOI spox: Iran enjoys most transparent peaceful nuclear program

Tehran, IRNA - Spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalvandi said on Thursday that Iran's peaceful nuclear program has been the most transparent issue.

In reaction to the recent report of the IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi about Iran’s nuclear program, Kamalvandi called it a repetition of previous baseless statements which are politically motivated and does not have any other new point except playing with words in this report.

Like the previous reports, the ambassador and permanent representative of Iran will present Iran's legal and reasonable responses to the recent report of the Director General in the next week's meeting of the Board of Governors.

Kamalvandi further noted that certain international media intentionally misreport the director general's reports in an unnecessarily detailed and vague path and use these ambiguities to set an anti-Iran stage to call into question the peaceful nature of the Iranian nuclear program.

He further said that the re-establishment of the previous verification system requires the JCPOA parties to comply with their obligations and they should not expect Iran to be open to extra-safeguard inspections when they do not comply with their obligations and while their oppressive sanctions against the Iranians continue.

Earlier, Kamalvandi gave “a friendly piece of advice” to the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency that he should stay away from making unprofessional remarks which are politicized and feed media.

The Iranian official noted that it is clear that if an issue is technical, it should be presented in a professional way and within the framework of the IAEA tasks, not in media.

"The IAEA director general, as the official in charge of a lawful international organization, is expected to stay away from political remarks and stances and be watchful that his comments do not complicate ties among IAEA member states," Kamalvandi said.

He added that such political stances and "unconstructive" remarks will further complicate the situation.
