Iran embassy officials honor Lebanese athlete refusing to compete with Israeli rival

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Cultural Attaché in Beirut, Komeil Bagheri, honored the Lebanese youth who had refused to compete with his Israeli rival during the 2022 IMMAF Youth World Championships in the UAE.

Bagheri, along with Iranian Political Attaché Karamollah Moshtaqi, visited Charbel Abou Daher and his family at their home in the town of Araya on Saturday, Al Manar reported.

The Lebanese network reported the Iranian cultural attaché as citing remarks by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

According to Bagheri, the Supreme Leader has stressed that the Islamic Republic defends the rights of any sportsman, either Iranian or non-Iranian, who refuses to compete with athletes representing the Zionist regime.

He said that the visit took place in line with the remarks of Ayatollah Khamenei.

The 2022 Youth International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) World Championships took place on August 17-20 in Abu Dhabi.
