Hossein Amirabdollahian who arrived in Mali’s capital city on Tuesday morning made the remarks in a joint press conference with his Malian counterpart Abdoulaye Diop, adding, “The African continent has special importance for the Islamic Republic of Iran and President Ebrahim Raisi, too, gives priority to having strong ties with the African countries, such as the historical country of Mali, which is especially important for us.”
The foreign minister emphasized that Iran favors having broader economic ties with Mali, relying on round-the-clock efforts of the Iranian and Malian groups of technicians, who are surveying different issues aimed at finding the best fields for bilateral cooperation.
“Today, we are in Mali, along with our colleagues in the Foreign Ministry, and an economic team from Iran, and we had a good meeting with this country’s politicians this morning,” he added.
Amirabdollahian said he was glad to begin his African tour with a visit of Mali, arguing that the two countries’ economic ties dates back to remote past, and Iran is ready and seriously willing to expand those relations as much as possible, and that his presence in Bamako today is a sign of the special importance to those ties for Tehran.
He said that Iran has a clear roadmap for bilateral relation, and this makes his diplomatic responsibility more difficult, and that of his colleagues in Tehran will contribute to fast broadening of bilateral relations
The foreign minister said that in campaign against terrorism, of which Mali, too, suffers, the two countries have a good level of cooperation, adding that Iran, too, has had many martyrs in that campaign.
