Iran’s Yousefi finishes runner-up in super heavy weightlifting in ISG

Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Weightlifter Alireza Yousefi finished runner-up in the super heavyweight class during the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games in Konya, central Turkey.

Yousefi, who won a gold medal at the 2018 Buenos Aires Youth Olympic Games, gained two silver medals and a bronze in the +109 category on Monday.

He lifted 170 kg for the first snatch and then lifted 176 kg for the second one.

Yousefi gained the bronze after he lifted 181 kg set by the technical staff for his third snatch.

In the clean and jerk, the Iranian strong man lifted 230 kg in the first round, but failed to lift 241 kg set by the technical staff two times.

He recorded 411 kg in total, which is 81 less than the total by Georgian strong man Lasha Talakhadze who holds world records of 225 kg in the snatch and 267 kg in the clean and jerk.

Iranian weightlifters, both men and women, have gained 27 colorful medals in the Islamic Solidarity Games, including 9 golds, 6 silvers and 12 bronzes.
