Final agreement in Vienna talks waiting for US: Analyst

Tehran, IRNA – The Islamic Republic of Iran has actively tried to maintain the 2015 nuclear deal and participated in the Vienna talks for economic interests of the Iranian nation; now, the ball is on the United States’ court to make a final decision, an Iranian political expert said.

Mohsen Pakaeen told IRNA on Wednesday that as High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell announced the talks in Vienna, Austria, has come to an end and the capitals of sides involved in the talks should decide based on the most recent proposed text.

The decision of the Islamic Republic of Iran as a signatory to the nuclear deal, which has never withdrawn from the agreement is completely clear, rational and based on the provisions of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the pundit said, adding that the Iranian negotiating team submitted its own points to the European side.

Iran will accept commitment in turn for commitment; on the other hand, whenever the other side abides by its obligations, the Islamic Republic would comply with its promises, he said, noting that the US should promise that all anti-Iran sanctions would be lifted and they will provide required guarantees to prevent from hindering international companies to invest in Iran or getting in the way of economic exchanges with the Islamic country.

If the US reaches to the political will that they are ready to comply with their commitments under the JCPOA and lift anti-Iran sanctions; Tehran would abide by its obligations and accept nuclear limits on the basis of the nuclear accord, he argued.

As to the launch of new generation of advanced centrifuges in Iran, Pakaeen said that the Islamic Republic’s injection of gas into hundreds of centrifuges especially 500 IR6 centrifuges has been a wise measure in line with Iranians’ independent policies.

Iran has always complied with its obligations under the JCPOA, but the Trump administration pulled out of the internationally recognized deal, and now the incumbent administration in the US does not show its willingness to lift anti-Iran sanctions, he mentioned.

Despite the fact that Iran’s nuclear negotiating team has showed rational attitude during the Vienna talks in order to pave the way for reviving the JCPOA and lifting anti-Iran sanctions, the US continued its bullying policy and imposed new sanctions on several Iranian companies and entities, the political expert said.

He went on to say that the Islamic Republic informed the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of the fresh decision of Tehran on setting up new centrifuges, indicating that the Iranians move within the framework of the IAEA regulations and respect safeguards measures.

Iran is not seeking to manufacture atomic weapons, while it can attain the capability, but the Islamic establishment does not have any decision to produce atomic bomb, he said, noting that all measures done by Iran, including injection of gas into centrifuges, are in line with its peaceful usage of the program in nuclear facilities as well as agricultural, health and industrial sectors.

The Islamic Republic will not succumb to the West’s pressure, he said, adding that Iran has chosen a correct path and will continue its peaceful nuclear program.
