Rasht-Astrakhan flight opens new chapter in Iran-Russia trade ties

Rasht, IRNA – Iran's consul-general in Astrakhan, Russia, said here on Sunday that Rasht-Astrakhan flight will help North-South Corridor and opens a new economic, cultural, academic, and diplomatic chapter between Iran and Russia.

Talking to IRNA, Mehdi Akouchian who was participating for the maiden flight ceremony of Rasht-Astrakhan return flight, said that establishment of relations with Russia’s Astrakhan city which dates back to 300 years ago is due to the existence of an Iranian Merchants Hall and an Iranian Caravanserai, which is also as old as that city.

He said that the Fars Folks Mosque, too, is another historical monument in Astrakhan, which is over 300 years old, and is the largest mosque which belonged to the Iranians in that region, and still has the same name.

Consul-General Akouchian focusing on the great significance of Iran-Astrakhan financial transactions, said that currently Astrakhan is the threshold for exporting Iranian goods to Russia, and importing that country’s goods.
