Iran’s “Drowning in Holy Water” selected as best film at Malaysia Int’l Festival

Tehran, IRNA – Iranian-produced film “Drowning in Holy Water” was selected as the best film at the 5th Malaysia International Film Festival that ran from July 10 to 15.

The closing ceremony of the festival was held on Saturday night when “Drowning in Holy Water” was selected as the best film of the event.

Written and directed by Navid Mahmudi, the cinematic work has been produced by Jamshid Mahmudi.

The film received nominations in four categories of the 5th Malaysia International Film Festival, including the best film, the best actress and supporting actor as well as the fresh hope section.

Neda Jebraili vied for the best actress and Matin Heidarnia competed for the best supporting actor.

“Drowning in Holy Water” is the story of two young Afghans, named Rona and Hamed, who love each other.

They decide to migrate to Europe in search of a better life. But they have to first make a major decision related to their religion.

Ali Shadman, Sadaf Asghari, and Mahtab Ja’afari are also among the cast.
