Leaders of Astana peace process guarantors to convene in Tehran on Tuesday

Tehran, IRNA – The seventh summit meeting of Astana peace process guarantors will be held with the presence of presidents of the three countries – Iran, Russia, and Turkey – in the Iranian capital of Tehran on Tuesday evening.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin are scheduled to arrive in Tehran on Monday evening.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi is due to accord welcome to his Turkish and Russian counterparts at Sa’dabad Cultural Complex on Tuesday morning.

Last month, the countries participating in the Astana peace negotiations had stressed that Syria’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity should be respected.

Representatives of Iran, Turkey, Russia, and Syria in Astana Peace talks had stressed once again that Syria's national sovereignty and territorial integrity should be respected.

They also condemned the terrorist attacks targeting Syrian civilian facilities and the killing of innocent civilians.

They emphasized the need for continued cooperation to eradicate terrorist groups like ISIS.

The peace negotiations were initiated in Kazakhstan's capital which was called Astana back then.

The talks retained the same name as the Astana negotiations after Kazakhstan changed the name of its capital city to Nur-Sultan in 2019.

The 18th round of the Astana peace negotiations that were initiated by Russia, Iran, and Turkey in 2017 to find a political solution to the years-long crisis in Syria was held in mid-June, 2022).
