Iran, Iraq Hajj missions say ready to expand cooperation

Tehran, IRNA – Officials of Iranian and Iraqi Hajj missions welcomed the development of cooperation between the two sides, and said that they would sign a memorandum of understanding to further promote their cooperation.

The announcement was made on Tuesday night following a meeting in Mecca between Sami Masoudi, Head of Iraq’s Supreme Council of Hajj and Umrah, with Abdol Fattah Navab, Iran’s Supreme Leader's Representative for Hajj and Pilgrimage Affairs.

Masoudi expressed his willingness that the MoU would be signed as soon as possible, and said that it would pave good grounds for the promotion of cooperation between the Iranian and Iraqi Hajj missions.

The two also exchanged views on the process of sending Iranian and Iraqi pilgrims to Saudi Arabia for the annual Hajj pilgrimage.

They expressed satisfaction that the Hajj was held this year after two years of break because of the Covid pandemic.

They also expressed hope that Iranian and Iraqi pilgrims could visit Saudi Arabia for the Umrah, which is also a pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca that can be undertaken at any time of the year.
