Amirabdollahian said that he had a phone call with EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell last night.
“Agreement is possible only based on mutual understanding & interests,” the foreign minister said, adding that Iran remained “ready to negotiate a strong & durable agreement.”
“US must decide if it wants a deal or insists on sticking to its unilateral demands,” Amirabdollahian noted, adding that having both was “mutually exclusive.”
Iran and the US had a two-day indirect negotiation in Doha, Qatar, last week after Borrell made a visit to Tehran.
During the negotiations facilitated by deputy EU foreign policy chief Enrique Mora, Iran presented its initiative on the outstanding issues and the US put forth its observations.
Amirabdollahian had a positive assessment of the talks afterward but said that it was up to the US to seize the opportunity of diplomacy.
He also said during a phone call with his French counterpart on Monday that Washington attended Doha talks without a progressive approach.
The next round of EU-facilitated Iran-US indirect talks is being planned, but the timing has yet to be determined.
