Iran’s envoy, Pakistan defense minister discuss security, military cooperation

Tehran, IRNA – Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Wednesday stressed the importance of cooperation with Iran in security, defense and military fields.

Asif made the remarks in a meeting with Iran’s Ambassador to Islamabad Mohammad Ali Hosseini.

The two sides discussed bilateral ties between the two countries, and stressed the necessity of signing a memorandum of understanding on promoting security cooperation as soon as possible.

They also stressed the importance of speeding up efforts to combat smuggling at the joint borders between the two countries.

The Pakistani minister announced his readiness to pay an official visit to Tehran for further talks on expanding bilateral relations.

According to the Pakistani Defense Ministry, the two officials discussed the situation in Afghanistan as well.

A ministry statement said that Asif called for regional cooperation to promote peace in Afghanistan where, he said, people deserve to have welfare and progress.
