FM: Roadmap needed for enhancing Iran-India cooperation

Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian stressed the need for laying out a roadmap for progressing the strategic and extensive ties between Iran and India, given the numerous capacities the two sides possess to boost their economic and trade cooperation.

The top Iranian diplomat made the comment on Wednesday during talks with his Indian Counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in New Delhi where he arrived earlier in the day on an official visit.

Amirabdollahian said that laying out a roadmap for cooperation between the two countries would help organize long-term relations and protect them from destructive factors.

Subrahmanyam, for his part, described his Iranian counterpart’s visit to India as important, and called for the formation of working groups to speed up the economic cooperation between the two sides.

The two ministers also discussed mutual cooperation on developing Iran’s Chabahar Port and other regional corridors.

They discussed the situation in Afghanistan as well.

Amirabdollahian and Subrahmanyam agreed that it is necessary to help Afghanistan resolve the economic hardships it is currently facing.

They also stressed that the formation of an inclusive government is the most important method to encourage all Afghan groups to decide the fate of their country.
