Former Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Republic Mohsen Pakaein told IRNA on Sunday that Greece was a reputable, independent country in Europe, but the recent measure to steal Iranian oil at the order of the US damaged the country’s prestige.
Greek authorities seized an Iranian tanker last month and confiscated its oil cargo to enforce US sanctions against Iran. In repercussion, Iran detained two Greek tankers in the Persian Gulf last week.
Pakaein expressed regret that a country with a civilization record like that of Greece had to commit piracy due to its economic dependence and that the world sees it today as a country dependent on the US.
The expert criticized Greece for failing to manage the issue wisely, saying that this has ruined Athens reputation.
The enemies of the Islamic Revolution, including the US and the Zionist regime, has been watching Iran’s progress with frustration, he noted, adding that they try, in response, to underrate Iran’s achievements and exaggerate its problems in a psychological warfare to discourage Iranian people.
