Speaking during a regional security conference in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, Shamkhani said that Iran has always been seeking to help establish peace and security in Afghanistan, which he believed would ensure welfare and development for the Afghan people and the entire region.
Iran has been hosting some five million Afghan people for long years, Shamkhani said, adding that Iran has had a lot of difficulty in hosting the Afghan refugees in the absence of efficient international support and under tough sanctions.
The official noted that wrong and expansionist policies of the US are the main cause of the 20-year war in Afghanistan and the war in Ukraine.
The US has to release Afghanistan’s frozen assets and compensate for the damages inflicted to the people of the country, he said.
Shamkhani cautioned that there are clues that some regional and extra-regional countries are dispatching terrorist groups to Afghanistan.
He believed that in order to be able to efficiently deal with such problems, the Afghan ruling government has to carry out its duties.
