Nezami saw Iran as beating heart of world: Author

Tehran, IRNA – Shokre-Khoda Goodarzi, an Iranian author, director, and actor, dismissed claims that Nezami Ganjavi does not belong to Iran, saying that the poet saw Iran as the beating heart of the world.

In an interview with IRNA on Wednesday, Goodarzi said the 12th century Persian poet Nezami Ganjavi lived in a period when the Persian literature had left behind a poetry climax like Ferdowsi.

If Ferdowsi is the greatest serious storyteller in Persian Literature, Goodarzi said, Nezami is the second if not equal.

Nezami differs from Ferdowsi in that the former’s poems are lyric with roots in theosophy and are so strong that one cannot find a single weak couplet in his works, the Persian literature expert said.

In his poetry, Goodarzi noted, Nezami analogizes Iran to the heart of the world and his love stories happened in this heart.

He called the claims that aim to link Nezami with a specific nationality “ridiculous”, stressing how one can claim Nezami is not an Iranian poet while he has composed such poems in Persian.

The author urged attaching more importance to Persian Literature figures and translate Nezami’s versed stories into films and series, so that other countries cannot ascribed these figures to themselves.

The 21st day of Esfand month in Iranian official calendar, March 12, has been designated as Nezami Ganjavi day.
