Ceremony on publication of Portuguese-Persian copy of Fernando Pessoa quatrains in Tehran

Tehran, IRNA – Portugal’s Ambassador to Tehran Carlos Costa Neves at his residence in the Iranian capital held a ceremony on publication of a copy of translation of quatrains of Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa into Persian.

The recently-held ceremony was conducted on the initiative of the Portugal’s Embassy in Tehran, under the support of Portuguese Camões Institute and with cooperation of Iranian Negah Publications.

Costa Neves, Luís Filipe Castro Mendes, well-known poet and former Portuguese minister of culture, and Director of Negah Publications, Alireza Raeis Danaei, delivered speeches to the ceremony.

Pessoa’s book was translated from Portuguese into Persian while the translation was inspired by Rubaiyat (quatrains) of the great Iranian poet Omar Khayyam (1048-1131).

Portuguese Professor Fernando Cabral has written a definite introduction for Pessoa’s book.

Rubai, also called chaharganeh in Persian, is a term for a quatrain which is a poem consisting of four lines.
