Vienna talks on verge of vital decision-making

Vienna, IRNA - Talks in Vienna, Austria, to lift anti-Iran sanctions kick off early in the morning and extend till late at night, when delegations involved in the negotiations labor hard to finalize an agreement.

According to IRNA's correspondent in Vienna, the Iranian negotiating team, comprising of deputy foreign minister who is presiding the delegation, legal and economic diplomacy deputies of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the spokesperson for the Atomic Energy Agency of Iran (AEOI), as well as a few experts, hold talks with representatives of the European trio (Britain, Germany and France) until early Wednesday. This is the second meeting between Iran and Troika at Palais Coburg within last 24 hours.

Philippe Errera, France's top negotiator in the Vienna talks, wrote on Wednesday that both sides continue the negotiations powerfully, twitting, "All hands on deck on both sides of the table #Endgame #ViennaTalks."

Stephanie Al-Qaq, Britain's top negotiator in the Vienna talks, twitted, "Late in the day! #ViennaTalks #EndgameViennaTalks," referring to continuation of the negotiations even late at night.

A few hours ago, representatives of the European trio held talks with the United States' delegation at Hotel Imperial.

The Iranian delegation also held internal meetings amid holding talks with other delegations.

The pace of negotiations has been significantly expedited in recent days. On Tuesday, for the first time since the beginning of the eighth round of the Joint Commission meetings of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), heads of all sides, including Iran, the European Union and the P4+1 group (Britain, France, Russia, China plus Germany), held an unofficial meeting in order to review the latest developments regarding the nuclear talks.

The Iranian delegation has underlined the need for immediate decision-making by the Western parties on remaining issues.

Wang Qun, the Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Vienna, addressed reporters by saying that he can see the light at the end of tunnel, expressing hope that all sides try hard to reach a final deal in the shortest time possible.

Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia's permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, told journalists that the delegations are very close to a final agreement, but it needs more efforts in the coming days.

The Vienna talks have been going on since December 27, 2021. Success or failure of the negotiations depends on political decisions by the Western sides.

Iran's top nuclear negotiator Ali Bagheri Kani wrote on his Twitter account, "Being near the finish line is no guarantee to crossing that. It requires extra caution, much perseverance, additional creativity and balanced approach to take the last step. To finish the job, there are certain decisions that our Western interlocutors need to take."
