March 12 has been designated to Day of Commemorating Nezami Ganjavi in Iranian calendar, because he is considered as one of the greatest and most well-known poets, as well as storyteller, who lived in Iran's sixth century AH.
The Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance in coordination with other cultural, artistic and even political Iranian entities, as well as Iranian National Commission for UNESCO along with several prominent artists and cultural figures, have decided to hold honor week for Nezami Ganjavi not only throughout the Islamic country but also at Iranian embassy around the globe ahead of Nowruz holiday.
Mahmoud Shalouei, advisor to Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, said in an interview with IRNA on Monday that Nezami Ganjavi's character and works are similar to enormous treasures, which can quench researchers and Persian poetry lovers' thirst everywhere in the world.
The Nezami Ganjavi International Award will provide his admirers with an opportunity to take part in a cultural event in a bid to introduce the great poet to the world, the university professor added.
The organizers of the honor week and international award plan to hold different programs in all Iranian provinces and even the farthest regions to commemorate the great poem, he mentioned.
According to the advisor, the Ministry of Education has urged students to write articles on Nezami Ganjavi and his precious role in Persian culture and literature.
The headquarters of honor week is scheduled to allocate 100 valuable prizes for the best articles.
The Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance is also going to hold a visual arts exhibition at Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art, Shalouei went on to say.
Scientific seminars will be held at the presence of Iranian and foreign scholars and researchers, he said, adding that similar conferences are on the agenda for the honor week in various cities.
At international level, all Iranian cultural consulates will collaborate with universities and research centers to hold the honor week around the globe, he noted.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the official announced that this year's International Nowruz Festival will be held in Iran, he said, adding that some 12 countries will participate in the festival and that Iranians will try to make other nations acquainted with the celebration.
