President Raisi left Doha, Qatari capital, Tuesday night, concluding a fruitful tour, which paved the way for his meetings with authorities, including Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al- Thani, as well as his participation in the GECF summit to upgrade cooperation with neighboring and regional countries.
Raisi also held talks with presidents from Algeria, Mozambique, and Equatorial Guinea on the sidelines of the summit on Tuesday. He met with prime ministers of Qatar and Tobago and Trinidad, and Venezuelan foreign minister on Monday.
Qatar and Iran inked 14 agreements to expand cooperation in eight fields. The Iranian high-ranking delegation signed MoUs with Qatari officials on the sidelines of the summit to increase collaborations on media and culture, diplomacy, energy, shipping, education, sports, tourism, economy and trade fields.
The two nations were scheduled to ink five to seven MoUs, but the number reached to 14 due to the high level of cooperation between the two governments.
They signed MoU to boost cultural and artistic collaborations related to executive programs between Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) and Qatar Media Institute.
Doha and Tehran reached consensus to bolster diplomatic and consulate cooperation, present mutual political consultations, and hold diplomatic courses.
Iran's Power Generation and Distribution Company (known as TAVANIR) and Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) signed an MoU to enhance energy cooperation.
The two countries have agreed upon deepening collaborations on maritime and road transportation.
Qatar and Iran also inked an agreement to expand cooperation in sports, youth, and tourism fields.
A joint venture to develop cooperation in industrial and economic free zones was agreed upon by the two sides.
GECF Summit
President Raisi and his entourage had an active and effective presence in the sixth summit of the GECF, where they participated in regional and ultra-regional meetings and proposed initiatives to increase energy coordination and collaboration.
Raisi addressed the GECF saying that holding six rounds of summits proves convergence and determination of the member states to pursue the objectives of the forum, which was established in Tehran in 2001.
The GECF members together control over 71% of the world's natural proven gas reserves, 44% of its marketed production, 53% of the pipeline, and 57% of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports across the globe.
Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago are member states. Angola, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Norway, Peru, and the United Arab Emirates are observers in the Gas Exporting Countries Forum.
The Iranian president also voiced readiness to pursue gas swap just like what happened last year among Iran, Turkmenistan, and Azerbaijan.
It is worth mentioning that Venezuela and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding on energy cooperation on the sidelines of the Tuesday summit.
