Vienna talks now focusing on verification of future US measures

Tehran, IRNA – The representatives of Iran, the European Union and the P4+1 group (Britain, France, Russia, China plus Germany) are now focusing on verification of the United States’ commitments under future agreements that was one of main issues of disagreement from the Western parties.

The eighth round of the talks in Vienna, Austria, kicked off nearly two weeks ago in a bid to revive the 2015 nuclear deal and lift anti-Iran sanctions. International observers and negotiators have confirmed that the negotiations have been moving forward.
On Thursday, the delegations held meetings at the levels of top nuclear negotiators and experts. Iran’s top nuclear negotiator Ali Bagheri Kani held talks with European Union’s representative and coordinator of the Vienna talks Enrique Mora as well as Head of the Delegation of the Russian Federation to the Vienna Negotiations Mikhail Ulyanov.
Bagheri Kani also met with top negotiators of the European trio (Britain, France and Germany). The Iranian and other negotiating teams held bilateral and multilateral meetings at expert level to discuss different issues, where they discussed issues related to removal of sanctions, verification of future measures and nuclear commitments under the JCPOA.
The top negotiators of the P4+1, the European Union and the US met Thursday night and discussed the way to implement potential agreement.
Ulyanov wrote on his Twitter account that the participants convened to compare existing texts and that they paid attention to the method of implementing future consensus. The negotiating teams should agree upon who should do what in this phase, which is not an easy job, he noted.
Wang Qun, the Permanent Representative to the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations in Vienna, underlined that the negotiations are on the right track.
Representatives of all states involving in the Vienna talks are trying hard to reach a consensus in the shortest time, the Chinese envoy said, adding that the Islamic Republic of Iran has played a constructive role by proposing inclusive and new suggestions.
The European and American officials have also acknowledged that the Vienna talks have been moving forward, but they claim that the progress has not been at the extent to make them optimistic on potential agreement.
According to Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh, the United States and Iran are reviewing unofficial texts on four topics of lifting sanctions, assurances on effective removal of sanctions, nuclear commitments and verification of the US’s future moves.
The Iranian negotiating team has announced from the get-go that the Islamic Republic will not accept any deal less than the JCPOA and that Tehran has not proposed any suggestion beyond the 2015 nuclear agreement.
