When participants in the negotiations in Vienna to revive the 2015 nuclear offer positive evaluations of negotiations, it bespeaks of important events behind the doors, Nozar Shafiei said in an interview with IRNA on Tuesday.
Such comments in the recent rounds of Vienna talks show that the Western parties have walked back their maximalist demands and have leaned to a middle position, according to Shafiei.
With that said, Shafiei noted, the sluggish progress in the seventh round of the talks were caused by two factors: existing mistrust and the parties' assessment of each other.
The expert opined that the US has moderated its stances because of the tensions with China and Russia on Taiwan and Ukraine issues and their attempts to reduce their military presence in the West Asia.
On the other side, he added, Iran has always proved that it has been seeking peaceful nuclear energy and has always been serious in negotiations.
However, there are factors that prevent progress in the negotiations, Shafiei said, mentioning as the factors that Iran hasn't forgotten the US' withdrawal from the JCPOA and the Republicans in the US have threatened to exit from the deal once they take over the Congress in 2022 and the White House in 2024.
