Iranian officials have offered a positive evaluation of the talks in the Austrian capital while the teams have paused negotiations and returned to their capitals for New Year's holiday.
The eighth round of Vienna talks started on Monday last week with the meeting of Joint Commission of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), informally known as the Iran nuclear deal, and was continued with discussions on Iran's demands on verifiability of removing sanctions and assurances by the US that no future administration would resume the same sanctions.
Iran's top negotiator, Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani, said that good progress was made as to sanctions removal as a result of negotiations done in this round.
There were reports that Russia and China have convinced Iran to walks back its demands on verification and assurances, but the Russian representative Mikhail Ulyanov said that he didn't like the rhetoric and that Russia and China only give advice to Iran.
Bagheri has said that the more serious the other party is in accepting Iran's proposed mechanisms on verification and assurances, the shorter the time required for reaching a deal would be.
